Happy to say that I attended a Mass in thanksgiving for the canonisation of a French Catholic couple with the Carmelite fathers and the Couples for Christ community who had taken much effort to organise the event.
It was not just any body that got canonised. It was someone or rather two holy souls, and they are the parents of St Therese of the Child Jesus. Parents of nine children. Four perished and five survived to become nuns after the heart of God.
I was happy to be there. I took away from the Mass the grace to look at families with more joy and to pray more for them, including those that I know. It is a challenging vocation, for sure. But it is so important and though we may never choose the families we hail from, we know that our parents and siblings are gifts from the good Lord. If for this reason alone we love them, that is good enough for a start!
